June 19, 2025, Monthly Members Meeting Minutes

To be presented at the July 17, 2025, Members Meeting

*MEETING CALLED TO ORDER BY:   

Robert Smith at 6:43 p.m.

++OFFICER’S REPORTS++

*Secretary’s Report:

David Coomer read Minutes from the May Meeting, and they were approved.

*Treasurer’s Report:

There was no printed report due to technical difficulty with Justin’s internet. But the account balances were announced, and Robert reminded the members about the change to Telco Community Credit Union and the deposit into a CD account.

*President’s Update:

There was no president’s report due to Luba Skibo not being present.

*Vice President’s Update:
Robert announced the upcoming Bee School for Journeyman, coming up in Newton, NC and he told us about the progress on the Hive setup at the church where the club meetings are held. He also mentioned that maybe, in the future, we can get the church hives set up on the Hive Tracks App, that the speaker spoke about at today’s meeting.

Robert told us about Hidden Happiness Bee Farm and the Practical Exams, Lunch and what a good time had by all.

It was stated that a thank you note needs to be sent.

Lia said she and Robert went to Patterson School for an Appalachian Outdoor camp. We were told about the funding, and in appreciation of Robert’s presentation, the club was given a donation of $150.00.

It was mentioned that Jon Tom McKee did a 4-H camp with Catawba County Beekeepers.

Robert talked about Bee Yard things like working the sourwood until the flow is over, robbing and overcrowding causing swarming this time of year.

He mentioned he had no swarm calls up till now and it is constant and may be through August and September.

Lia introduced guest speakers.

++SPEAKER PRESENTATION++

Dr. James Wilkes, a Professor of Computer Science at Appalachian State University, Founder of Hive Tracks Technology. He explained to us his history and achievements. He presented the Hive Tracks Mobil App for beekeeping. Explaining its features and benefits for record keeping in the apiary.

++OTHER BUSINESS/UPCOMING EVENTS++

Robert informed us that a thank you note had been sent to Hidden Happiness Bee Farm in appreciation for hosting us while we conducted the Practical Exams.

Journeyman’s class on the 21 & 28th in Newton, NC.

Lia announced next month’s speaker.

Information was given about the ‘Great Southeast Pollinator Census’ on August 22nd & 23rd and we were encouraged to participate in and include our hive numbers in this census of North and South Carolina, Georgia, Florida and Alabama.

5 door prizes were awarded.

The 50/50 raffle gave a member $28.

The meeting adjourned at 8:06 p.m.
