January 16, 2025, Monthly Members Meeting Minutes

++OFFICER’S REPORTS++
*President’s:
Mickey briefly spoke about 2024 in general.
Luba introduced herself and asked new officers to introduce themselves during this time.
Luba provided current status on Bee School promotional activities including postings in Lenoir Topic News, Caldwell County FB, Lenoir Happenings FB, Extension Office Monthly Happenings News, and club’s own FB page. The current number of paid signed students for the class is 10. Luba further encouraged members to continue sharing information about the class.
Luba announced formation of Special Committee to assist Historian with managing and documenting activities for the state Golden Achievements Program (GAP). Members of the Committee to be appointed by the President.
Luba presented to the members club’s 2019 GAP Binder as well as the framed award for the 4th place club won.
*Vice President’s:

*Secretary’s:
December’s members meeting was a Christmas Dinner, so there weren’t any Minutes written for the dinner and so no motion to accept required.
*Treasurer’s Report:
The Treasurer was not present at this meeting so there was no report presented and no motion to accept as presented.

Reminder about Bee School coming up. Encourage members to invite people.
++SPEAKER PRESENTATION++
Guest speaker Emily Carswell from Beelite Candles in Morganton, North Carolina presented a PowerPoint and Seminar on the various aspects of Wax and Candle Making.
Include were the topics of: Wax, Wax Moths, melting and or boiling wax, Solar Melters. She discussed the use of molds and mold cleaning methods.
What to do with wax. Various crafts, Lubricants made with wax. Lip Balms, Waterproofing and Furniture Polish, to name just a few of the wide variety of products to be made from Bee’s Wax.
She explained a comparison of candle types.
Also, the benefits of Bee’s Wax Candles.
Emily also spoke about Wicks, Candle Mold Types and the Candle making process plus keys to making candles.
She then reminded us about candle safety and Beekeepers Gold.
Emily finishes up with a question-and-answer session.
++OTHER MEETING ACTIVITIES++
Terry Triplett displayed to the group the framed award our group won at the 2023 State Fair and his wife Lisa shared highlights from the Honeybee Expo that was in Louisville KY recently.
Members asked what the ‘Telling of the Bees is. That was explained.
++What’s Going on In the Hive++
- Luba opened the floor up for the ‘What’s going on in the Hive’ discussion, so Terry talked about the bee’s clustering in the hives now and how bees are about one month ahead of us in season changes.
- Some members asked about the Bee School for club members, so it was explained that club members can attend class without payment, unless examination and certification is pursued.
- Some members ask about Nucs. They were referred to Robert Smith.
50/50 raffle this month gave a winning member $40 and a half dozen members won door prizes.
Luba concluded and closed the meeting with an announcement about the next meeting.
